Good Link, Great Information
I get emails from people suggesting what I should blog about, and it's fun to look them over, but often I don't write about them. But yesterday I got a note that I will write about.
The Alliance for Excellent Education just put out a great report on dropouts. But even better than the report, at least for me, is the link to national information about high schools.
Go here and check out your state. I love this. Or here's a link to local info.
I am a touch envious. Back in 1999 I applied for a journalism fellowship, and when I was interviewed as one of the finalists I told the panel I wanted to create a database of school and education information on the web. The esteemed panelists looked at me as though I was crazy, and I didn't get the fellowship. Instead I ended up in grad school. And so journalism never took on the work of getting good education data on the web and basically surrendered that territory to think tanks and research outfits. It's too bad. But so it goes.
